I had a c‑section about two years ago.

The scar healed fine. But it never really finished healing. You know what I mean? It stayed pink. Slightly raised. And it itched — not all the time, but enough to annoy me.

I tried a few creams. A silicone sheet. Even asked my dermatologist about laser. But nothing made a real difference. I just assumed that’s how scars are. You live with it.

Then a friend told me about sea buckthorn oil softgels. Not to put on the scar. To take.

She said it helps with inflammation from the inside. And that sometimes a scar doesn't fully heal because your body is still stuck in a low‑grade inflammatory state.

I figured it couldn’t hurt. So I bought a bottle.

What I did

Two softgels in the morning with breakfast. Two with dinner. That’s it. No creams, no massages.

For the first few weeks, I didn’t notice anything different about my scar. But I did notice I felt less bloated and my joints didn’t ache as much. Not what I was looking for, but fine.

Timeline of Results

  • Around week three: The itching stopped. Completely. That was new.
  • By week six: The color had faded from pinkish‑purple to something closer to my skin tone. And the raised edge felt softer — not like a tight cord anymore.
  • After about four months: I looked at it and realized I wasn’t thinking about it anymore. That’s when I knew something had actually changed.

It’s not invisible. But it’s flat, pale, and doesn’t bother me. For a scar that used to be red and itchy, that’s a win.

What kind of scars might this help?

From what I’ve read and heard from others:

  • Surgical scars (c‑section, knee, etc.) that are still red or raised
  • Acne marks that stay pink for months
  • Burn scars, once fully healed
  • Stretch marks that are still reddish

If your scar is white and completely flat — that’s usually mature tissue. Sea buckthorn probably won’t do much. But if it’s still discolored, itchy, or slightly raised, there’s a good chance it can help.

A few things to know

  • Look for sea buckthorn berry oil in softgels. Not seed oil. Not mixed with cheap carrier oils.
  • Take it with food. It absorbs better.
  • It’s very safe for most people. But if you’re on blood thinners, ask your doctor first. Sea buckthorn can have a mild blood‑thinning effect.
  • Give it at least 8–12 weeks. This isn’t overnight.

Why this worked when creams didn’t

Creams only work on the surface. A scar that stays red, thick, or itchy usually means there’s still inflammation underneath. Your body never fully finished the job.

Sea buckthorn oil, taken internally, helps calm that inflammation. It gives your body what it needs to finally remodel the scar tissue. You’re not covering up the scar — you’re helping your body heal it from the inside.

I didn’t expect much when I started. I was mostly tired of the itching.

But four months later, my scar went from something I thought about every day to something I barely notice. If you’ve tried the usual stuff and it didn’t quite work, this might be worth a shot.
